La Sorrueda Dam

Well. The thing is I went on a small trip to Santa Lucía / San Bartolomé last Saturday. In San Bartolomé while trying to pick up a box of oranges my back... don't know what happened, but it still hurts. That's why I haven't posted until this Sunday afternoon, 'cos it hurts if I sit down too long.

There goes a panoramic photo of La Sorrueda Dam in Santa Lucía. I can already hear Adastra say, "The force is with you young guiri, but you're not a jedi yet!" I think I need to keep on practicing. I also took one from Las Tirajanas Hotel, up in San Bartolomé, but I'm not exactly proud of that one. It came out too dark.

Please consider both photos were taken 'after' the orange-box incident.

He lives with two dolls.

Dont miss this article about the growing 'Otaku' market in Japan. They interview 'Masa' who lives with two life-sized dolls... real girls are a bother! What surprised me is that both dolls together cost +$6000... blimey... I can buy a laptop and a big FlatScreen TFT with that! What the heck... I can afford a REAL chick for a couple of days for that amount... although I'm sure the two dolls are cheaper in the long run.

Anime Review: Monster

Synopsis

Kenzo Tenma, japanese brain surgeon in Germany, takes the controversial decision to save the life of a boy over the city's mayor. This leads him to lose almost everything he has. His fiancé, his career, his social status. The only thing he has left is his self esteem, knowing he did what is right saving the boy that arrived first. Things get complicated when he realizes nothing is what it seems. A bloodbath to Tenma's advantage that leads to the apparently innocent boy makes him question his own beliefs. (Synopsis adapted from spanish wikipedia).

Guiri comment:

Even though I haven't watched all episodes, I've seen 61 up to now, I can safely say this anime is one of the best (possible THE best) ones I've ever seen. It's not for spoiled brats (kids). It's based (or follows precisely, I don't know) the highly successful manga with the same name. It's a thriller and can get to bore you if you're a kiddo.

Johan and AnnaIt's one of those anime that could be made into a real movie/series with human actors. (Why the heck hasn't it been done yet ???). Without wanting to spoil the plot, in the first episodes, of course, the doctor gets the blame for Johan's (the boy) killings. Tenma turns into a kind of japanese "The Fujitive" in Germany, while he goes discovering who Johan is and unravelling the plot.

All the characters are great. Tenma, Nina (Anna, Johan's sister), the cop goes after Tenma, I LOVE Tenma's fiancé.... and of course... Johan. By the way, Johan doesn't usually kill people himself, he 'manipulates' others in to doing so... totally awesome!

JohanWell, there it is. Definitely a series that if wasn't an anime, but with real life actors, would be a blockbuster.

But... it's one of those 'weird asian cartoons'... and... you have to read... (the world is full of morons).

People search for the weirdest things...

I linked the blog a week ago to one of those stat sites, where they keep track of you, but we've got nothing to hide anyway... yet.

One of its services is to tell you what users were searching for with their favorite search engine when they found you... I'm amazed, there go a few:

- dirección de dirk benedict : (dirk benedict's address) Great friend of mine, awesome parties we had at Murdock's place.
- dark vader luchador : It's misspelled, it's 'Darth' you moron!
- sexo con er : (sex with er) with er... Guiri??? All you can get if you're female! Google actually works!!
- pistas de hormigon para cerdos : (concrete lanes for pigs) haaahaha, this one's great. I'm still in stitches!

From now on I browse our stats every day to see if there's something interesting.

I'd like to thank 'Gusanos Rosas' and 'Adastra', our top referrers.

OK. What's a ISBN... excuse me, IBSN number of those good for? Well, I don't know. Your URL should suffice, but I suppose this way you can change hosting and keep the number, or.. whatever!... everyone's got one, I want one too! 5-000-0000-05

Gran Canaria Star Trek Club. Looking for new premises.

As many of you will know, I'm the president of the Gran Canaria Star Trek Club. I'm going to take advantage and ask for advice in this blog, cos it has more hits than the club's blog, so on the way I'll advertise :p

We usually got together every Sunday at the 'Casa museo de Perez Galdós', until the repairs it's been under forced us to leave. We've been promised we can go back when it's finished. But the problem is the bloody repairs ARE NEVER GONNA FINISH, and we've been more than a year without being able to go, and we've thrown the towel.

So... I'd like to ask for help/advice/opinion. If anyone knows about a place in the island where we can get together on a weekly basis. For example we've already been suggested the 'Casa de la juventud de Telde'.

Thank you for your attention.. Live long and prosper \\ //

Steven Seagal Emotions

As I was in stitches lately with Javi Moya's Datos curiosos de Chuck Norris. (Spanish. Chuck Norris facts) I still believe Steven Seagal is better. Or even Jack Bauer. I'll leave you with his Emotion Chart.

AniDB

Esteban asked me the other day if I'd seen any interesing Anime lately. I haven't written any anime Reviews lately cos I haven't seen anything worth mentioning...
but I DID discover an interesting website.

AniDB is a website (in English) where you can keep a list of 'Your' Anime. The one's you own or have watched, and rate them.... when you rate more than 30 you can ask for an 'Anime Hint' and you'll be given a list of anime you haven't watched/own based on your ratings... VERY interesting!

I link my votes

All anime I remember having watched recently and not so recently is listed.

I'm sorry tu disapoint you Esteban, but I gave 'Samurai Champloo' a 9, cos what I most value is the Story... I like to be surprised, and SChamploo didn't. I won't argue if it deserves a 10, but votes are subjetive.

The names listed are the original ones, meaning 'Paranoia Agent' is 'Mousou Dairinin'. I've included Movies as well as series.

Of course, the website includes a list of total votes of all users, where, of course, 'Fullmetal Alchemist' is first... again, 3 websites and counting. If there's something I learned watching this series it's... don't judge a book by its cover, only its votes!

Chorrada: XP Login Wallpaper trick

A WindowsXP trick, tweak, tip, or whatever it's called. I dedicate it to Esteban:

If you DON'T use XP's welcome screen but the usual login screen, the one you HAVE to use if you're in a domain, which is usually the case at work.

Well, in that case you can put a wallpaper on that boring screen. But, the image must be .BMP file.

You just need to edit the registry, at:

HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop

the "Wallpaper" value will be waiting for you (it's blank by default) to insert... c:\whateveryouwant.bmp

nb: If the path is "long" you'll have to include it between double quotation marks "" (or whatever they're called):

"c:\program files\what the heck is an image doing here.bmp"

And yes Esteban. It's easier in Linux with either gnome's or kde's 'login' whatever they're called. :p
